Debra Presley, Founder & CEO of Diverse Nation, is interviewed by The WI
I was so chuffed to have been interviewed by The WI (National Federation of Women’s Institutes) for their Thinking Differently campaign on my experience and advice as a neurodivergent psychologist, scientist, mum in an entirely neurodivergent family, and expert in neurodivergent-friendly design.
I talked about a range of topics, such as the shift in identity that happens after neurodivergent diagnosis/discovery (particularly when that happens in later-life), how to identify the strengths of your own neurodivergence to regain a sense of control, and how the most empowering and simple thing you can do is to adjust your personal environment towards a sensory-underloaded one to give you more brain quiet so your mind can think more easily and you can feel much calmer.

The Women’s Institute has almost 200,000 members – I hope my message of empowering neurodivergent women reaches far and wide. Being neurodivergent brings enormous challenges, particularly in being our best selves in a world designed by neurotypical people for neurotypical people, but it’s not all doom and gloom; far from it!
A key message from Debra – please, let’s start designing the world (its structure, processes, policy, environment, and everything in between) from the neurodivergent perspective; that way, it is fantastic for everyone.
Stay Diverse, lovely people.
