Debra Presley, Founder & CEO of Diverse Nation, attends ‘Investing in Social’ event
I could have posted a picture of the inside of the conference room or the event poster, but I haven’t. I’ve posted a picture instead of the wonderful view from my hotel room at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Reading because I was lucky to have a warm and safe place to stay for the night. I’ve been homeless, I know how debilitating it is.
I attended a fantastic training event on investing in social housing by the incredibly experienced, talented, and ethically driven Christine Janaway FRICS and Sarah Walker CIHCM. It drove home how important social housing is and how damaging it is to individuals, families, and society when people don’t have a stable place to live.
I’m already having conversations with local businesses, local authorities, property people, investors, and anyone I think may be able to help see how we can come together to boost social housing – in particular, to utilise empty homes, convert empty spaces, and refurbish downtrodden properties as land is at a premium.
Everyone needs a safe place to live. I’ll do everything I can to ensure any social housing I can create is psychologically designed from the neurodivergent perspective to increase the mental peace of whoever lives there.
I so wish I could do more. I will do more.
